The President of our country, Masoud Bishikian, who has traveled to Armenia to participate in the 17th Conference of the Members of the Convention on Biological Diversity, emphasized in his remarks that the international community should pay more serious attention to the environmental effects of military conflicts in Iran and the region.
Ambassador Arjan - political group: Medzikian said: The aggressive wars of the United States and the Zionist regime and attacks on industrial and energy facilities have destroyed natural ecosystems and environmental infrastructure by causing fires, spreading pollutants and polluting water and soil. Since pollution knows no political borders, these damages have global dimensions and require international solutions; Just as the amount of destruction in oppressed Gaza is a clear example of "natural murder" whose soil cannot support life for years.
He also emphasized that the international community is expected to establish effective mechanisms to prevent the sacrifice of nature in wars; Because the Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to the Convention on Biological Diversity and the global goals of environmental protection.
In this meeting, the president also reminded: the international community should accept that countries under sanctions or under military aggression should not pay the environmental costs of war and sanctions alone. The spread of water, soil and air pollution does not stop behind the borders; Therefore, the damage caused by war is also a global issue and requires international solutions. This is not only an internal issue or limited to the political borders of this country, nature does not know political borders.
The president said at the meeting of the member countries of the Convention on Biological Diversity: Considering the importance of preserving the country's natural, cultural and civilizational heritage, the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan document has been compiled and approved and the Environmental Protection Organization has been designated as the national coordinator. Protection of endangered species, rehabilitation of vulnerable populations, development of protected areas and monitoring of wildlife indicator species are among the basic priorities.
He reminded: War does not only target people and infrastructure, but by destroying forests, wetlands and water resources, soil pollution, habitat destruction, displacement of animal species and the entry of chemicals and heavy metals into natural cycles, it leaves lasting damages for years after the end of hostilities. Today, the international community has well understood that the destruction of the environment during armed conflicts is a consequence. It is not secondary, but directly threatens the security and well-being of future generations.
