Anti-Indian Wave Intensifies in the US
The rise of racist attacks against Indians, especially in Texas, has become a hot topic in American politics these days.
By posting a picture of South Asian students at a University of Texas football game, he claimed that Americans were being replaced by foreigners, while some of the people in the picture were American citizens.
According to the Pew Research Center, the American Indian population will increase from about 1.8 million people in 2000 to 4.9 million people in 2023, and Indian citizens will make up about 71 percent of the initial recipients of H-1B work visas in fiscal year 2024. Also, the average annual income of Indian-American households in 2023 was about 151 thousand dollars.
Analysts believe that some far-right currents, by exploiting middle-class concerns about employment, educational competition and economic opportunities and strengthening anti-immigration messages on social networks, use the success of Indians as an excuse to spread racist feelings.
