A high school football coach in Oregon has been fired after scoring against a rival team last weekend.
Sometimes, you just slip away from your cover. Or, you know, something like that.
Marist Catholic High School head coach Zach Loboy was let go by the school after his team beat rival Cottage Grove 63-0 last Friday. The school confirmed the firing in an email, saying they "have decided that a change in leadership is necessary to reflect the mission and values of our school."
Apparently those "values" included not making an onside kick when it was 57-0 in the first half.

Unfortunately, Loboy didn't get this message in time:
The high school football game was held at halftime
Wow Nelly! This onside kick rivals Sean Payton's infamous kick in the 2009 Super Bowl. stunning Nobody saw it coming, considering a) it was the second quarter, and b) the score was 57-0.
With boots on the ground, the game was stopped at halftime and never resumed. Garrett Bridgens told The Register-Guard that the decision "was made in the best interest of our kids, our fans — the whole situation — to do what's best for everybody."
These two teams are clearly on two very different playing fields in terms of talent. They are rivals, but it's not a real rivalry game right now. Last season, Cottage Grove went 1-8. In the last three games, the Lions are outscored 105-0. Not great!
As always, this is like a situation where there is more meat on the bone. You don't usually fire a coach because he scored a point in a game.
Go back and watch the clip and pay attention to its two margins. A team has a lot of supporters by its side. The other is essentially empty. This should show you where the two programs are currently.

Anyway, this is definitely a first for me. I have covered high school football for a long time. This was my main job in my previous life. Here at OutKick, I've spent all fall highlighting viral moments from Friday nights across the country.
I can honestly say that I have never seen such a situation.
"Our priority is to support our players, maintain a positive team environment and help the team finish the season strong," the school added in an email obtained by KVAL in Oregon. We know that changing coaches in the middle of a season can be difficult for players and families. We appreciate your understanding, support and prayers as we make this transition."
