Ledger Tamper Response Costs $899, Ships Next Year

Ledger’s Atom Pairs Wallet Security with Everyday Apps, Ships Summer 2027 Amid Review of Compromised Wallets Sold in Asia

Ledger's new Atom combines the security of a crypto wallet with everyday applications and is expected to launch in the summer of 2027, while the company is investigating tampered wallets sold in Asia.

Ledger unveiled a new device with stronger tamper protection on Thursday, days after it confirmed that wallets sold through a vendor in Asia contained malicious implants.

The French hardware wallet maker announced the Atom, an $849 device that combines a crypto wallet with everyday apps through a smartphone-like design. Atom separates Android apps from sensitive wallet operations and includes protections that Ledger says blocked the implants used in the recent Asia incident. It is also advertised to detect tampering even when it is turned off.

According to an announcement shared with Cointelegraph, the company expects to begin shipping the device in the summer of 2027.

Ledger said Atom will also support AI agent confirmations, encrypted messages and post-quantum cryptography.

The announcement follows a security incident that surfaced on Friday regarding malicious implants found in wallets sold through the CryptoBilis authorized dealer. Ledger has asked distributors in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to stop selling their products. European retail chain MediaMarkt has also removed Ledger wallets from its shelves.

When asked when nuclear tamper protections were put in place, a Ledger spokesman said it was not a response to isolated incidents. Raskhango did not provide a timeline for the development.

In a separate blog post on Thursday, Ledger said it had introduced new rules requiring authorized dealers to keep the devices from being displayed and handed out to customers at the time of purchase. It also stressed that returned devices should never be resold.
