Everything you need to know about the aftermath of Street Fighter

Kitao Sakurai's fighting game adaptation spawns a sequel with a familiar face

Street Fighter is now officially out in theaters, and if you're reading this, you've probably already seen the live-action adaptation of Capcom's fighting game series and are now sitting in the theater waiting for the credits to roll. Or maybe you're just curious and wondering what director Kitao Sakurai and the crew put in the credits to set up a supposed sequel. If you accidentally clicked on it and you're afraid of spoilers, you now have three whole sentences to delete, so let's get into the post-release Street Fighter scene.

Throughout Street Fighter, we get a number of animated sequences, but those are reserved for flashbacks. In a mid-movie scene, it breaks this rule (not that it really followed many rules to begin with), using animation to show the moment that happens after all the street fighting is over. First shown in the film's opening scenes as Ryu's final opponent in the first World Warrior Tournament, Sagat is now seen training angrily, clearly still holding a grudge against Ryu's defeat. M. Bison, Vega, Cammy, and Juli all show up during his training session to presumably recruit Sagat to do his evil deeds.

This is just my extrapolation, but I'm assuming this is an animated scene since the movie hasn't cast anyone for Sagat yet. It doesn't even look like he's practicing, he grunts. But it does allow the film to confirm that Sagat will have a proper live-action debut in the sequel without having to be cast as Ryu's rival.

Street Fighter doesn't really resolve what is ostensibly the film's central conflict, with Akuma showing up at the 11th hour and usurping the main villain role from M. Bison. So there's plenty of room for a sequel, it's just a matter of whether the film does well enough to get greenlit.
