Ambassador Arjan: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, warning about the lasting environmental consequences of regional wars, announced the exposure of millions of Tehranis to chemical pollutants after the attack on refinery tanks and demanded to investigate these damages in the context of war crimes.

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the sidelines of the Ecoside International Summit; Silent Crime said about the environmental conditions of the Persian Gulf: The environmental situation of the Persian Gulf has been facing environmental disasters for years. The war that America started in Iraq, the burning of oil wells and the fires that occurred in the region, all caused extensive damage to the environment of this region.

He added: After that, due to the continuation of wars in this region, we have always faced the environmental consequences of these conflicts. According to the US policies, it seems that this trend will continue.

Araghchi pointed out: The reality is that in wars, the victim's environment is silent. Nature, as a neutral element in the war, perhaps suffers the most damage; Injuries whose effects are permanent and long-term.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also said: In this recent war and aggression against Iran, we also witnessed how much damage was done to the environment, people's living environment and their health. For example, in Tehran, when the tanks of a refinery were targeted and a fire broke out, the city's sky was dark for a whole day, even two to three days, and black rain fell. Millions of people in Tehran were exposed to pollutants and chemical poisons.

He emphasized: These cases should be dealt with at the international level and effective measures should be taken to prevent the repetition of such injuries. In my opinion, these measures should also be investigated in the context of war crimes.
