During a visit to a command center, Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow is establishing a security zone along the border of the two countries inside Ukraine. According to him, this action is a response to the advance of Ukrainian forces to the Kursk region in 2024 and 2025, and its purpose is to ensure the absolute security of Russia's border areas in the future.
Putin emphasized that this security zone will not be discussed in any possible peace talks with Kiev and is non-negotiable. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Kremlin, had previously announced the length of this area to be 660 km, and currently 70% of it is under the control of Russian forces.
The Russian president also emphasized the necessity of turning field victories into political achievements and spoke about the continuation of successful attacks on the military infrastructure of Ukraine. In the end, he thanked Pope Leo XIV for announcing his readiness to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
