Love and the Story of the Third Person!

The long novel “In Preparation for a Life Not Lived” tells the interconnected lives of Omid, Roya, Hengameh and Arezoo, each entangled with love, family and the past. Rather than offering a clear answer, the novel brings forward the gap between lived life and dreamed life. Love is a promise of liberation, yet its social form is unclear; the relationship never remains fully two-person, and a “third person,” such as family and the past, is always present. “Unlived life” is not the past; it is a future that

Iranian Ambassador Arjan's Literature Service (Arjan Ambassador) - Mohammad Aghasi, sociologist and public opinion researcher: The long story "In preparation for the unfulfilled life" is the narrative of several lives connected together. A life of hope, dream, time and desire that each one is involved in a way with their love, family and personal choices. The characters seek to build a life that is different from what they are experiencing now, but their relationships are always subject to the interference of the past, family, and others.

For them, love can be a promise of liberation, but it also confronts the relationship with questions about choice, commitment, and the possibility of an independent life. The novel's multiple narratives gradually create a picture of people who want to change their lives, but each time, the past, relationship, or something else gets in the way of this change. In the meantime, what remains the most is the gap between the lives the characters have lived and the lives they wanted or could have lived.

But the long story "In preparation for not living" can be read from another angle. Through the relationships that are supposed to provide the possibility of life, but they themselves become a part of the problem of life. In the meantime, love has an important place. For storytellers, love is to a large extent the possibility of breaking free from the cage. A way to get away from the situation they are stuck in and reach a life that seems desirable. But right at this point, a contradiction is formed, if the family is worn out without love, can any love save the family?

It seems that the novel does not give a clear answer to this question. Love is present in it more as a promise of liberation than as a relationship that can survive in everyday life and change existing relationships from within. If we consider the absence of government, religion and media in this story as a vertical absence, perhaps we can call the absence of love a horizontal absence, which is one of the significant absences of the story. Absence of an image of love that not only takes the person out of the cage, but also makes another form of life possible. There is love, there is a desire for love, and there is also the idea of liberation through love, but the social form of this liberation is not so clear.

Of course, like any other social experience, love is not formed outside of time and society. Our idea of love, our expectation of relationship, the meaning we attach to loyalty, independence, commitment and happiness are all formed in a certain historical and social context. From this point of view, perhaps love cannot be considered only as an individual and liberating force. Love itself is formed within the same society where a person wants to be freed from its limitations. So the question is not only who we love, but also in what social world we love and what do we expect from love?

The issue of relationship is also significant in the novel from the same angle. The relationship appears to be formed between two people, but in the narrative of the characters, there is almost always a "third person" involved. Someone or something that stands between a person and his desired life. This third person sometimes has a human face and sometimes it can be understood in the form of a family, a family member such as a grandmother, the past, the expectations of others or social conditions. As a result, the relationship never remains completely two-person, and something outside the relationship is constantly influencing it.

But the presence of this "third person" raises a more difficult question. Do the characters take responsibility for their unlived lives or do they always consider an external factor responsible for their failures? If the other, family or social conditions always prevent the realization of the desired life, what will be the contribution of the individual in his choices and decisions? Conversely, if we reduce everything to individual responsibility, what do we do with the constraints that actually affect his choices? The value of this double situation is that the novel does not provide a simple answer. A person is not completely the owner of his destiny, nor is he completely a victim of forces outside himself.

Therefore, the issue of border studies and demarcation in interpersonal relations also becomes important. Relationships are not built by proximity alone. The truth is that recognizing the distance between "I" and "the other" is also a condition for the formation of a stable relationship. A person must be able to have a relationship with another and maintain his independent territory. When the boundaries between people become too permeable, the relationship can turn from the possibility of coexistence into an arena for interference, control, and loss of independence. Part of the fragility of relationships in the novel can be seen from this point of view, that is, the border between the individual, the other and the family is not always clear and established.

Memory is another important element of the social world of this story. Characters don't just live in the now. The past is present in the experience of the narrators, but memory does not necessarily mean a healthy and constructive relationship with the past. The past can become a part of today's life when it can connect with the present and allow us to imagine the future. If the past only repeats itself and cannot help to understand the present and build the future, memory can become an obstacle to movement instead of being a bridge between times.

It may be said that one of the problems of the characters "in preparation for life" is their relationship with time. They have not completely separated from the past, nor have they been able to create a bright future for themselves. The past is present in them, but the future is not yet a real possibility. For this reason, "not living" is not just about the past. A life that has not been lived can be the future that has not yet been realized.

Finally, love, relationship, demarcation and memory can be considered as four forms of a single problem, and that is the possibility of building "self" in relation to the other and with time. Humans need relationships to live, but they also need boundaries to preserve themselves. It also needs the past, but to continue living it must be able to pass from the past to the future. With love, a person wants to bring another close to him, but living together without maintaining distance and independence may lead to his loss.

Perhaps not lived in this sense is not only a life that the characters have not had the opportunity to experience, but also a life that they have not yet been able to provide the relational, emotional and time conditions necessary for its realization. And here the title of the story goes beyond a personal regret and becomes a question about the possibility of life. In fact, when can a person live the life he wants?

The long story "In preparation for the unlived life" is a narrative of the interconnected lives of hope, dream, time and desire, each of which is intertwined with love, family and the past. Instead of a clear answer, the novel presents the gap between the lived life and the desired life; Love is the promise of liberation, but its social face is not clear, the relationship is never completely two-person, and the "third person" such as the family and the past is always present. "Hasn't lived" is not the past; It is a future whose relational and temporal conditions for its realization have not yet been provided.
