Warner Bros. isn't the only Los Angeles institution to be roped in by Skydance this month. The Bay Theater in Pacific Palisades, previously operated by Netflix and before that by Cinepolis, will be acquired by Paramount Pictures with San Diego's The Lot. The opening is planned for later this year.

The Bay Theater has been closed since wildfires damaged much of the upscale Los Angeles community in January 2025. The five-screen multiplex is located in Rick Caruso's Palisades Village shopping district, which reopened after extensive renovations due to fires in August. The old theater sign is a reference to the historic Bay Theater that was located near Sunset Boulevard until it closed in 1978. Caruso negotiated a deal with Paramount to present theatrical premieres, classics, events and specials. The theater features plush seating, state-of-the-art sound and projector, in-theatre dining and specialty cocktails. Popular in Variety

"The theater will also serve as a dynamic entertainment destination that extends the theater experience beyond the screen, through experiential activations and immersive theatrical moments," the companies said in a statement.

David Ellison, chairman and CEO of Skydance, said in a statement: "Together with Caruso, we are proud to help restore the Bay Area as a place for the Pacific Palisades community to come together for a shared cinema experience. This theater has always meant more than movies alone – it is an inspiration and contribution to the fabric of this neighborhood. The residents of Pacific Palisades are resilient, and we are proud to help support this community's return."

"Paramount is one of the world's leading entertainment studios, with an extraordinary legacy of cinematic storytelling and, above all, a deep commitment to the city of Los Angeles and the future of theater. Together, we see an opportunity to bring to the Bay the care, design and hospitality we've always been known for in the hearts of Bay visitors. The Palisades and its return is one of the most meaningful signs that the association has seen since the reopening of the Village," said Caruso. The Palisades is coming back stronger than ever this summer, and I share a common ambition to make it one of the premier movie theater destinations in Los Angeles.
