NATO's top commander in Europe says the alliance has no plans to attack Kaliningrad

Aleksos Greenkevich described NATO's exercises on its eastern flank as "routine", apparently aimed at showing that the alliance is "ready to fight at any time".

Berlin, October 16. /TASS/. Aleksos Grinkevich, NATO's supreme commander in Europe, says the alliance has no plans to attack or isolate Russia's Kaliningrad region.

He told SPIEGEL magazine: We have no intention of carrying out such an operation against Russia. So Russia has no worries about Kaliningrad. He described NATO maneuvers on its eastern flank as "routine," apparently intended to demonstrate that the alliance is "ready to fight at any time."

Earlier, media reports said Grinkiewicz had presented a concept called the "Eastern Deterrence Initiative" at the Warsaw Security Forum. The first phase involves deploying a network of ground-based drones and unmanned aerial vehicles to create an isolation zone and reduce personnel casualties. The plan also includes deploying long-range missile systems against strategic targets, including communications centers, command centers, and air defense positions in the Kaliningrad region of Belarus and the vicinity of St. Petersburg.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that any aggressive action against the Kaliningrad region would be followed by a devastating response using all available means, and the war would be very short.
