EXCLUSIVE: Bel Powley and Rob Delaney lead a BBC podcast series about a recovering addict and pop star executive, produced by Sharon Horgan.

The Harry Potter and Catastrophe stars will follow recovering addict Tim (Delaney) who is tasked with escorting pop star Lucy Greene (Pauley) on a trip to rehab in Arizona in Sober Companion. What begins as a simple journey to rehab quickly turns into a journey filled with misadventures, revelations, and unexpected connections, forcing Lucy and the team to confront the messy realities of fame, family, and recovery. Horgan found global acclaim with her Catastrophe co-creator and star, Delaney, with whom she collaborated on the hit Channel 4 series, which was sold to Prime Video in the US. The series was written by Sarah Simmonds (Killing Eve) and directed by Destiny Ekaragha (1984). Watch on Deadline

Sober Companion launches on BBC Sounds next month, joining a line-up of high-profile audio dramas including Richard Curtis' Greatest Living Writer starring Bill Nye. It's a personal story for Delaney, who has spoken openly about his struggle with alcoholism in his early 20s.

"What drew me to Sober Companion was the relationship at its heart," Delaney said. "Tim and Lucy enter each other's lives at a time when they are both struggling and neither is happy about the arrangement. It's funny, messy, moving and often surprising, exploring recovery, connection and second chances. I loved playing Tim and going on this journey with Bell and the rest of the cast."

Pauley, who will soon be seen as Aunt Petunia in HBO Max's Harry Potter, added: "Lucy is a fascinating character because she tries so hard to convince everyone, including herself, that she has it all under control. Underneath the celebrity and the tabloid headlines is someone who is vulnerable, and the story is cuter, funnier, and trying to bring her to life. It was a joy to bring her to life alongside Rob and this wonderful cast."

Dylan Hoskins commissioned the Sober Companion. Alongside Horgan, Fay Dorn and Pippa Brown is the EP, produced by Emma Morgan. Horgan's Youth has just aired on HBO Max.
