In Brief: Kremlin Remarks on the "Energy Ceasefire" and American Negotiators' Efforts
Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia seeks a lasting peace in Ukraine and is ready to do whatever it takes to achieve it.
Moscow, October 12. /TASS/. The possibility of an "energy ceasefire", the efforts of US negotiators on Ukraine, and the sabotage investigation of Nord Stream were the main topics of the briefing of the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
TASS has collected the key statements of the Kremlin spokesman.
- The Kremlin cannot comment on the issue of "Ceasefire Energy" at this time: "Communications are ongoing. As soon as we have something to say on this matter, we will definitely let you know."
- Russia wants lasting peace in Ukraine and is ready to do anything to achieve it: The Kremlin has said many times, and [Russian] President Vladimir Putin has said, along with other officials: We want lasting peace, not a ceasefire, and we are ready to do whatever it takes to achieve it.
- Europe clearly does not belong to the "peace camp" that seeks to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Instead, it is part of the "war camp" that is doing everything to prolong the crisis: "Europeans clearly do not belong to the "peace camp", which is looking for a peaceful solution [to the conflict in Ukraine].
- Moscow welcomes the work of the American negotiators for the peaceful settlement of Ukraine: "We are very impressed by the efforts of the American negotiators. We are grateful to them for pursuing these efforts."
- Russia is not looking for a split between the United States and Europe over the Ukraine conflict, but a solution that can help pave the way to a peaceful solution: "We are not looking for a split here, but we are looking for really effective measures and responsible solutions that will enable us to reach a peaceful solution."
Regarding the Nord Stream pipeline vandalism investigation
- The Kremlin expects the perpetrators and agents of the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline to be identified during the trial, which is scheduled to begin on October 14: "We expect objectivity. We expect a verdict to be announced. We expect the perpetrators to be identified as well as those who ordered the attack. This is very important."
- "I don't think anyone doubts who was really behind it."
- Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev did not discuss the case of 11 Russians detained by Azerbaijan last year during the Commonwealth of Independent States Summit. 11 Russians are still detained in Azerbaijan and Moscow is still in contact with Baku on this matter: "This issue has not been discussed at the highest level. But we are also in contact with our Azerbaijani friends on this issue."
- Russia really hopes that this issue will be resolved soon: "We sincerely hope that this problem will also be resolved soon."
