Democratic congressional candidate Darialisa Avila-Chevalier told Hassan Picker that Oscar Belgall's criminal record "doesn't even matter" after he was injured in an ICE shooting.
New York Socialist candidate Hasan Picker says shooting victim's fap sheet doesn't matter to ICE
The shooting victim's criminal record at ICE "doesn't even matter," New York House Democratic candidate Daraliza Avila-Chevalier told Hassan Picker.
New York Democratic congressional candidate Darialisa Avila-Chevalier told Twitch broadcaster Hassan Picker on Saturday that it "doesn't even matter" that the man injured in the shooting of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer has a criminal record.
Chevalier's comments came after Oscar Belgal, a 28-year-old Dominican Republic national who the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says is in the country illegally, was shot by an ICE officer during a targeted operation to arrest him. DHS said Belgal refused to comply with officers' lawful orders.
Peeker and Chevalier challenged the New York and federal authorities, who highlighted Belgal's criminal history, arguing that his past crimes did not justify the use of force.

At a news conference near the scene of the shooting late Thursday, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that during the struggle, Belgall pulled his vehicle over before at least one officer fired seven shots, hitting him below the left ear. Tish also said Belgal had two previous arrests, including for theft and criminal sale of a controlled substance.
According to DHS, Belgal has prior grand larceny convictions and prior arrests for assault, robbery, drug possession and weapons possession. Federal authorities also said he had ties to the notorious Trinitarios street gang.
"What is the rap sheet of this person that Jessica Tish claims is a criminal, and was the ICE arrest valid in that regard?" asked the figure.
"You know, I was very angry when I was listening to it," said the knight. "I went back to his statement to make sure I was correct in my statement about it. But it doesn't even matter to me, does it? It doesn't even matter."

Picker also said that even if Belzal committed a violent crime like murder, that doesn't justify the ICE shooting. The knight also criticized Tisch for trying to "evil" Belgal.
"Police Commissioner Tisch came out, and I know it's his job to provide more information, and that's why he's coming to these press conferences. But instead of condemning ICE, instead of condemning the shooting or the events that just happened, he started to vilify Oscar, right? It makes him look bad, and as a result, vilifies anyone who was in his position."

The New York State Republican Committee criticized Knight's comments, calling them "further evidence" of the decline of the Democratic Party.
"Americans will remember when we voted in November," he added.
