Brad Windbaum, head of Marvel Television, says Daredevil: Born Again was always planned to conclude with Season 3, despite having previously been suggested otherwise.

Marvel TV president Brad Winderbaum says Daredevil: Rebirth was always planned to end with season 3, despite previously suggesting otherwise.

In a new interview with The Brandon Davis Show, Winderbaum was asked about the show's third season finale. He noted that the plot was "always going to culminate in [Season] 3," despite the news of the show's ending coming as a surprise to fans.

The plan was always to peak at 3, because the way we look at it, the original [Netflix] series is 3 seasons, Reborn is 3 seasons. "They're kind of like a paperback or a collection that you can put on your shelves, like these two 3-volume sets, and then we'll take a breath and figure out the next character."

Actor Charlie Cox suggested the same at New York Comic Con, telling GamesRadar that there's "more planning and emotional support" this time around. The original Netflix series was unexpectedly and unceremoniously canceled, much to the surprise of the show's writers and cast. However, at some point, the actors were told that the rebirth would be the finale of the game.

Interestingly, Winderbaum told Screen Rant in 2025 that the series will run annually, dropping a new season every March.

"This is the show," Winderbaum said before Season 1 of Born Again aired. "Season 2 is coming out next year, and hopefully season 3 and infinity after that. I think it's a wonderful world. It's rich and there are so many stories to tell on the streets of New York."

Of course, plans could change if Disney and Marvel realized the audience wasn't there. It looks like, at least, the show wasn't abruptly cut short after filming wrapped on Season 3. Even if the series ending with Season 3 wasn't planned from the very beginning of Born Again, it may have changed during the development and writing of Season 3. Whether or not Daredevil will return in an upcoming MCU project remains to be seen, but fans still want to see the Man Without Fear team up with Spidey. Cox himself is uncertain about Daredevil's future, but has urged fans to campaign to bring the character back.

"I don't know, man. I don't know," he said, when asked if he was done playing Daredevil. "I mean, it could be. It could be. Don't worry about Kevin [Fige]. Get the Save Daredevil campaign on the horn. Get them motivated. That engine won't stop until there's clarity. That's my real superpower, the Save Daredevil campaign!"
