Expert: SpaceX Restrictions Could Disrupt Ukraine's SBU Operations

Sergei Trukhachev Noted That SpaceX Restrictions Also Directly Affect Ukraine's Armed Forces

Moscow, October 14. /TASS/. A number of cyber operations of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) against Russia may be disrupted or delayed due to SpaceX limiting the speed of Starlink satellite internet terminals used by Ukrainian security agencies, technical and digital security expert Sergey Trokhachev told TASS.

Earlier, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine) Alexei Goncharenko (included in Russia's list of terrorists and extremists) announced that the armed forces of Ukraine are 200% dependent on Starlink satellite internet.

"It is unlikely that there will be any significant changes in the work of the SBU, given the use of fixed terminals. However, due to the interconnected nature of this infrastructure, the restriction may affect Ukraine's fraudulent call centers and a number of cyber operations - causing short-term glitches, disruptions, and missed operational deadlines," Trukhachev said.

In addition, he noted that SpaceX's restrictions directly affect the armed forces of Ukraine. "There will certainly be disruptions to certain missions in certain parts of the front," the expert stressed, stressing that this will primarily affect Ukrainian operators of high-speed drones (UAVs).

On Wednesday morning, Sergei Beskrestnov, an adviser to Volodymyr Zelenskyi on communications and unmanned systems, reported that SpaceX had limited the speed of Starlink satellite Internet terminals used by the Ukrainian military to 160 kilometers per hour overnight. The disruptor, he said, was "a number of operations." Later, Sergei Strenenko, a former adviser to Ukraine's defense minister, reported further restrictions on SpaceX's use of Starlink satellite communication terminals at speeds of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour.
