New WhatsApp feature: Call people who don't have an account

By introducing the guest call feature, Meta made it possible to invite people without a user account to WhatsApp calls through a link.

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called "Guest Call" that allows users to call anyone, even without that person having an account on WhatsApp.

According to Meta's official description, the person you want to call doesn't even need to install the app, as Meta added calling support to the WhatsApp web version earlier this year. Users can invite guests just by sending a contact link, and guests will still have access to call features like screen sharing and emoji reactions, along with end-to-end encryption.

Limitations and mechanism of the new WhatsApp feature

However, Call Initiator still requires an account and there are restrictions on guests. The host of the call must always approve each person who intends to enter as a guest. Also, the host can remove the guest from the call at any time. Another important thing is that the contact numbers of other participants are not displayed to the guests, nor can they send a message or add another person directly to the call.

Meta has also announced that it will integrate Google and Outlook calendars for WhatsApp calls later this year. With this feature, after installing the WhatsApp plugin and connecting the user account, you can send the link of WhatsApp calls through the calendar and along with the invitations.
