The Director General of Urban Services of Tehran Municipality announced the beginning of dredging of rivers and canals in the city from the beginning of September and said that these measures are being carried out under the supervision of the General Department of Urban Services and the Waste Management Organization and with the participation of 22 regions.

According to Ambassador Arjan-Alireza Jafari, on the sidelines of the second day of the fourth skill-building course and operational exercise of flood and survival in difficult conditions, referring to the warnings of the Meteorological Organization about autumn rains, he said: "Since the beginning of September, dredging of open and closed rivers, canals and water diversion routes has been on the agenda of the regions. Our colleagues dredge and clean these roads in the city on a daily basis and based on the planning and monitoring, so that during the rains, traffic and the presence of citizens will not face any problem."

He added: "Due to the approaching autumn season, the regions have been obliged to continuously check the open reservoirs so that leaves, garbage and other waste do not accumulate in the water path. Also, the valves that need to be repaired are identified and repaired so that they can function properly during rain."

Director General of Urban Services of Tehran Municipality, referring to the extent of the capital's surface water collection network, explained: "In Tehran, there are more than 700 kilometers of canals and the main surface water collection route, including open and closed routes. In addition, about 10,000 km of open stream directs surface water to underground channels. In view of the fact that the maintenance of this extensive network also requires the cooperation of citizens."

Jafari emphasized that the surface water network is designed for a specific amount of rainfall and dumping garbage in Anhar can cause clogging of roads and problems during rains. He asked the citizens to refrain from throwing garbage in Anhar and if there is a need for dredging or cleaning, to inform the municipality through the 137 system so that the necessary investigation can be done.
