Phantom Blade Zero Director Says Sony Reacted Excitedly During Game Reveal

In 2023, Sony's State of Play event showcased a number of upcoming PlayStation 5 games. Although Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was one of the highlights of the program, an action game from the relatively unknown studio S-Game also attracted a lot of attention.

S-Game, a Chinese studio that previously worked on mobile games, surprised PlayStation fans and made a name for themselves with the sudden announcement of Phantom Blade Zero. Apparently, Phantom Blade Zero wasn't initially planned to appear at the event, but the game impressed PlayStation executives enough that they decided to showcase it at the 2023 event.

Liang Qiwei, the founder of S-Game and the director of Phantom Blade Zero, also known as Soulframe, has recounted the memory of the first meeting to introduce the game to Sony. Chiwei explained that the meeting at first went like a normal meeting to introduce the project to the managers of a company. He said:

There were two of us; Two young people with fresh faces entered the meeting room of PlayStation managers. There we met with one of the officials of the commercial department and showed him the prototype of the game; A very raw version that was very different from what you see today. Still, he was impressed.

Fortunately for S-Game members, the session didn't end there. Shuhei Yoshida and Christian Sonson, two PlayStation executives, were also present at the presentation and were surprised by the game's presentation. Qiwei continued:

Fortunately, Christian Svensson, Shohei Yoshida and other senior executives were at our table. The commercial manager invited them to join us to watch the trailer. Seeing the pictures of the game, Christian excitedly said: Damn, who are you? This is really awesome! After that, they invited us to attend their 2023 event.

That event was S-Game's first experience in a big show at this level, and the presence of Phantom Blade Zero in it made the game gain attention on a global level. Sometimes the circumstances come together in such a way that a wonderful result is achieved, and the adventures of Phantom Blade Zero are an example of such events. According to the shows we have seen of this work so far, it seems that we are dealing with a different action game that offers a different experience from other works of this genre.

The Phantom Blade Zero game is scheduled to be released on October 29 (November 7) for PlayStation 5 and PC.
