Robert Saleh Says Cam Ward Is in Good Shape Despite Titans' 0-5 Start and the Worst Statistical Blunder in the NFL This Season
Craig Carton reflects on the terrible Sunday of coaching in the NFL Craig's cartoon show
The NFL saw bad coaching decisions all over the NFL on Sunday. Craig Carton looks at the decisions that cost the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Chiefs their respective championships.
The Tennessee Titans are 0-5 to start the season, have the fewest points in the NFL, and second-year quarterback Cam Ward hasn't taken anything resembling a positive step forward. It's also a franchise that hasn't beaten a team in its AFC South division since November 2024.
The Titans are objectively a terrible football team, but the message head coach Robert Saleh is sending this week is that fans shouldn't wait any longer for something positive to happen.
Tennessee lost 26-3 at home against the winless Houston Texans, who sacked Ward four times. During his press conference on Wednesday, Saleh was asked how his young defender can't let the pressure and dismissals affect him going forward, when the coach made some questionable comments.
Three NFL DUMPSTER fires make for an embarrassing league history not seen in nearly three decades
"Very interesting conversation with Cam this week," Saleh said. He is in a good position, and has a lot of confidence in the O-line.
Saleh claimed he had an "interesting conversation" with Ward and pitched it as a selling point. If the Titans were winning football games, the team's fan base would be one thing. You add Ward on top of his comment that Ward is "in a good space", and it's hard to come up with a more disingenuous message that is sure to fall on deaf ears.

Ward is 3-19 as a starting quarterback, including 0-7 against AFC South foes, and faces another loss to another division rival as the Titans travel to Indianapolis on Sunday to take on the Colts.
While Saleh needs to do what he can to instill confidence in a player who will see the Titans as the face of the franchise for years to come, changing the narrative and sharing that Ward is angry yet motivated doesn't make it any worse.
The reality is that the situation in Nashville couldn't be worse, as the franchise is at its lowest ebb.
Since Mike Vrabel was fired as head coach in January 2024, the Titans have gone 6-33 under their second general manager and second head coach in that span.
Since Saleh started his tenure at Tennessee 0-5, his NFL head coaching record is 20-41 overall after a multi-season stint with the New York Jets.
