Holding races in Africa has long been one of the goals of Formula One; Tuesday's announcement is the culmination of years of collaborative work to build the right infrastructure and select the best business partner to ensure a successful, sustainable and world-class Grand Prix for generations to come.

The long-term agreement will see the first race in the country following the completion of a new circuit in Rwanda, expected early next decade.

The new track will be developed as part of a wider sports, tourism, infrastructure and business development project led by the Rwanda Development Board, to FIA first-class standards.

Located approximately 40 kilometers south of Rwanda's capital Kigali and adjacent to the new Kigali International Airport, the track will be designed to blend in with the natural landscape and take advantage of the area's elevation changes to create a unique and challenging racing experience while providing exceptional viewing opportunities for fans.
