The former Homeland Security secretary, who was removed from office, went on X to pick a fight with the country-pop star and ended up with a mic-drop comeback post. Christy Nome may have thought twice before starting a war of words with Kacey Musgraves, who had a comeback post on the mic after the ousted Homeland Security secretary went on X to pick a fight with the country-pop star. Because when the going gets tough in a Noem feud, it always goes to the dogs.

Nome didn't like that Texas senatorial candidate James Talarico, a Democrat who is leading in the polls in the red state, attended a concert by Musgraves' fellow Texan over the weekend and was warmly received, as captured in photos and videos. "Thanks for having me last night, Kacey Musgraves!" He wrote on social networks next to a photo of the singer that he took a photo of the two of them.

This led to Nome trying to bash not only Musgraves for hooking up with Talarico Badger, but Choosin' Texas producer El Langley (who, for what it's worth, is from Alabama).

"I'd take Ella Langley over Kacey Musgraves any day," the Republican representative tweeted. "And if I pick Texas, I'll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico."

"I don't think you have a dog in this fight, but if you did you would have shot it," Musgraves tweeted, quoting Nom.

Langley didn't seem to appreciate Nome being pitted against Musgraves, as he or his team were quick to remove their X name from the politician's tweet.

Nome has not returned to X for any other posts since Musgraves' comeback as of this writing.

Noem became famous for an anecdote in his memoir about shooting his 14-month-old dog, Cricket, in a sand pit after finding the animal too troublesome. The story exemplified the South Dakota governor's determination to do tough things, but it appeared to destroy his chances of being Donald Trump's running mate in the 2024 presidential election.

The horror story wasn't enough to keep him from appointing him as his home secretary after the start of his current term, but he subsequently fired him from that post in March this year, following a series of controversies. Nome has been in the news much less since becoming the US Special Envoy to the Shield of the Americas in the Trump administration.
