10,000 medical graduates of Tehran have migrated; At the top of them are doctors and dentists
The more suitable the welfare conditions and facilities that a person has access to after immigrating, the more likely he is to stay in the destination country.
The head of the Alumni Relations Office of Tehran University of Medical Sciences announced the migration of more than 10,000 graduates of this university to foreign countries in different years and said: These graduates mostly studied medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, and they chose America and Western Europe as their first destination for migration.
According to Ambassador Arjan, Seyyed Mansour Getamiri, while stating this matter, referring to the wide community of graduates of the University of Medical Sciences, stated: Considering its historical background, during its 93 years of official university activity, this university has trained a large number of graduates in various fields. Estimates show that the number of graduates of this university has exceeded 150,000 people, but due to the passage of several decades of the university's activity and the unavailability of the information of some old graduates, not all of these people have been registered in the office's communication systems.
He added: Currently, more than 60,000 to 65,000 records of graduates of Tehran University of Medical Sciences are at the disposal of the Alumni Relations Office, through which it is possible to communicate with these people. This communication is followed through the offices located in different faculties, provincial offices, the international branch of the university in Budapest, Hungary, and the centers of graduates by year of graduation.
Referring to the migration process of graduates of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the head of the alumni relations office stated: The migration of graduates continues in recent years and it seems that the motivation to stay in the country has decreased for some of them. Unless there is a fundamental solution for this issue and the necessary grounds are provided to increase the attractiveness of staying inside the country.
Stating that the migration of graduates is observed more after the end of university courses, Getmiri explained: migration at a younger age and before entering the university is associated with more difficulties for various reasons; But after completing a bachelor's, master's or professional doctorate, part of the graduates, especially in the fields of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, want to continue their education or work abroad.
He continued: In bachelor's and master's fields, the migration path is smoother in some fields, and graduates can proceed abroad by presenting and translating their educational documents.
This academic staff of Tehran University of Medical Sciences emphasized: In recent years, nursing fields have also been considered for immigration; Because the acceptance of documents and the possibility of professional activity for the graduates of this field in some destination countries are easier compared to fields such as medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
Referring to the changes in the migration process in recent years, the head of the Alumni Relations Office of Tehran University of Medical Sciences said: Although there is still a desire to migrate, it seems that the rate of migration has decreased compared to some previous years. But this decrease does not necessarily mean an increase in the attractiveness of staying in the country, and part of it can be due to the strictness of most of the destination countries in accepting skilled workers.
Emphasizing on the costs spent on the training of specialized human resources in the country, he stated: Considerable costs are spent financially and economically to train students and graduates in various fields, even at the bachelor's level. However, a part of these trained forces go to other countries after graduation and the destination countries benefit from their specialized capacity.
Getmiri added: Some graduates may pay the costs related to their obligations to the government and decide to emigrate despite this. Others leave the country after fulfilling their service obligations. Therefore, it is not enough to train specialized personnel to maintain this human capital inside the country, and it is necessary to plan to strengthen the motivation of the graduates to stay and return.
Stating that living conditions and scientific and professional opportunities are effective in the decision of graduates to stay or migrate, he said: the more suitable the welfare conditions and facilities that a person gets access to after migration, the more likely he is to stay in the destination country. On the other hand, the more we can strengthen the motivations and attractiveness inside the country, the more opportunities will be provided for the return of graduates after the end of their academic and specialized courses.
The head of the Alumni Relations Office of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, referring to the possibility of studying in many specialized and specialized fields in the country, said: Currently, it is possible to complete many specialized and specialized courses in Iran; However, people who go abroad to complete their educational courses may decide to stay in the destination country, depending on the conditions and opportunities available in the destination country. Therefore, efforts should be made to increase scientific, professional and welfare attractiveness inside the country in order to strengthen the possibility of these people returning.
About the characteristics of graduates who are more exposed to immigration, Getamiri said: Students who have top ranks or who have shown their capabilities in the field of research, publication of articles and scientific activities, usually have more presentable academic records and can use these records for admission to prestigious universities.
He added: The big and prestigious universities of the world pay attention to the scientific and research records of the applicants, and students who provide more documentation of their scientific abilities have a greater chance of attracting the attention of these universities. In such a situation, the scientific and research opportunities of the destination country can be effective in a person's decision to continue his education and even stay in that country.
The head of the Alumni Relations Office of Tehran University of Medical Sciences stated that some countries in the region may attract some of the Iranian experts by offering attractive financial offers. However, internationally recognized universities and scientific centers, in addition to financial conditions, seek to attract capable people by providing scientific and research opportunities and professional facilities, and sometimes these opportunities play a decisive role in their decision to stay in the destination country.
In response to a question about the exact number of graduates of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, he explained: The official statistics on the migration of specialized forces are available to related institutions, including the Ministry of Health, the Medical System Organization, and the Nursing System Organization, and the Office of Relations with Graduates of the University does not have accurate and official statistics in this field.
Stating that the initial estimate indicates the presence of more than 10,000 university graduates abroad in different years, Getamiri said: Among the various fields, medicine is at the top of the fields related to the migration of graduates, followed by fields such as dentistry, pharmacy and other fields. However, this figure is an estimate and to announce the exact statistics, information from official sources should be checked.
Referring to the presence of a number of university graduates in scientific and professional centers abroad, he noted: Although the large-scale migration of graduates cannot be considered a pleasant event, some of these people are working at an outstanding scientific level and can be a source of pride for the university and the country. Therefore, the relationship with these people should be maintained and their scientific and professional travel to the country should be facilitated so that it is possible to use their scientific and specialized capacities.
