Banks should not be left out in the safe sale of gold / With what license do platforms sell gold?
A member of the National Security Commission of the Majlis, criticizing the ban on the online sale of gold by banks, believes that in war conditions, instead of leaving the market in the hands of different platforms, the ground for safe purchase of gold should be provided through official channels.
Ahmed Bakhshaish Ardestani, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Council, criticized the Central Bank's decision to ban the online sale of gold by banks in an interview with the parliamentary reporter of Ambassador Arjan and said: "In my opinion, this ban is a worthy decision." In a situation where the country is facing restrictions and pressures caused by the war, it is impossible to leave the economy and trade alone and allow any group, even a platform whose main activity is not related to the gold market, to enter this field; At the same time, banks should be prohibited from offering gold.
He added: The central bank has the duty to monitor the performance of banks and increase the transparency of transactions. If problems arise for buyers in online gold transactions or some platforms do not fulfill their obligations, ultimately it is the people who suffer and their dissatisfaction can have wider consequences. There have also been reports about the empty sales of some platforms, which shows the need for more careful monitoring of this market.
Online buying and selling of gold was banned; What is behind the decision of the central bank?
Emphasizing that people should be able to buy gold safely, this member of parliament said: If gold transactions are to be done online, why can't people make their purchases through banks that are under the supervision of the Central Bank? Of course, the main issue is that all the players in this market must be transparent and answerable to the people.
Referring to the difference between gold and currency in maintaining the value of assets, Bakshaish Ardestani stated: When people buy dollars to maintain the value of their currency, the demand for foreign currency actually increases; A currency that belongs to another country. But gold is a universally accepted asset and can be part of the country's and people's safe reserves. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between the management of the gold and foreign exchange markets and adopt policies that help to strengthen the national currency and the economic circulation of the country while preserving people's assets.
He continued: Of course, simply selling gold to people does not mean boosting production. Gold should serve the economy and the country's resources should be directed towards productive activities. The experience of the extensive supply of coins in the past also showed that if gold is bought only as a reserve asset and kept in homes, it does not necessarily help production. The government must have a plan to maintain the value of the national currency, control the currency market, and direct capital towards production.
A member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission criticized the effect of currency fluctuations on the prices of various goods and stated: Today, the increase in the dollar rate has become an excuse to increase the price of many goods. Even in cases where the direct and immediate connection between the currency price and the cost of the goods is not clear. This situation shows that the monetary, currency and economic policies of the country need to be revised. The government cannot be indifferent to the devaluation of the national currency and the shrinking of the people's table; Because the continuation of these conditions increases public dissatisfaction.
At the end, Bakshaish Ardestani emphasized: in war conditions, maintaining economic stability and the value of the national currency becomes more important. People should not feel that foreign pressures have been able to disable the country's economy. For this reason, I believe that the ban on the online sale of gold by banks needs to be reviewed. If the central bank's concern is the violation or lack of transparency in transactions, it should resolve these problems with clear supervision and regulations, rather than excluding banks from operating in this market and leaving the field open for other platforms.
