The last game to cross the 1 million sales mark is Control Resonant. Developer Remedy Entertainment made the news yesterday, almost three weeks after the game's release, revealing that Resonant is now the fastest game in the Finnish studio's 31-year history.

Remedy didn't share a digital/physical split, nor did it say which platform led the sales, but those are good numbers for a Remedy game, and even more impressive given the unusual September release schedule in which Resonant came out.

Remedy CEO Jean-Charles Godshon, who was named company chairman in February, called it "a very strong start." "Control Resonant is Remedy's first self-release of this scale, launching in one of the most competitive windows in recent years alongside the biggest names in the industry," said Gaudechon.

"We've always believed that Control deserves a wider audience, and this launch shows what's possible: we see the game connecting with long-time fans while bringing a significant number of new players into the Control universe, fueling its long-term potential."

Gaudechon's comments are particularly notable because the executive — who previously led a sports betting platform — recently had to appease fans who feared he was taking the studio's leadership in a different direction.

To that end, Gaudechon said that Remedy will continue to build on its two "established" franchises in Control and Alan Wake, adding, "Our focus is on what makes them special, supporting them and growing them even more." More to come from these worlds.

Although we don't have similar sales data for the original controller, the game sold 2 million copies by the end of 2020, 15 months after its release. Alan Wake 2 — previously Remedy's fastest game — took about two months, by contrast, to reach the one million milestone in 2023. Incidentally, Resonant has the lowest score among the three. Alexis Ong, in his Eurogamer review, awarded it three stars, saying, "It feels like it's chasing the cues of a live-action game while trying, with some success, to replicate the very deliberate structure and style of genre storytelling that worked so well in the first game."

Control Resonant joins recent releases such as The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Star Wars Zero Company, and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, which have all sold over 1 million copies.
