The Dino Berlinetta Speciale was unveiled in 1965 with a design by Aldo Brovarone, built on the Dino 206 P racing chassis. This one-off car, with its very short nose, four headlights and distinctive body lines, drew wide attention at the Paris Motor Show.

Safir Arjan - Dino Berlinetta Speciale is a one-off car that was built in 1965 by Pininfarina based on the Dino 206P chassis. Designed by Aldo Bruvarone, then chief designer of Pininfarina, this car featured a combination of the compact dimensions of a racing car, a mid-engine and different body lines.

The first step to build this car was taken in 1965; When Pininfarina asked to use the Dino 206P chassis to build a new show car. The selected chassis was the second type of 585. The main car of this family was also used extensively during the preparation for the competitions.

The chassis was delivered to Pininfarina as a mobile assembly without a body. Then a distinctive coupe body was formed on it, which was designed by Aldo Bruvarone. He had been working on this plan since 1964; A design that had a different approach compared to the common patterns of that period.

One of the main characteristics of the body was four headlights, which were placed in two pairs and inside a plexiglass-covered nose. The compact dimensions of the chassis and the placement of the engine in the middle part made it possible to design a very short and low nose. The long arches of the fenders also emphasized the visual effect of this section.

Concave rear window and side fins

Due to the position of the engine and the structure of the body, the driver no longer needed to see from the engine compartment. For this reason, the driver's seating position and the car's roof line were designed at a low height.

The lines of the glass part of the cabin continued along the two side fins, which were located on both sides of the elongated end of the fuselage and the engine compartment. The concave rear window, which was installed between these two fins, was another unusual feature of the Dino Berlinetta Speciale.

The air needed by the engine was supplied through inlets on both sides of the body. These entrances were equipped with chrome strips that, in addition to their appearance, also served as door handles.

Technical specifications of Dino 206P chassis and engine

The chassis used in Dino Berlinetta Speciale uses the latest design of that period and had a structure consisting of space tubes. The welded steel floor also helped to strengthen this structure.

The suspension system of the car was double wishbone type in all four wheels and cooling disc brakes were used in all four corners of the car.

The driving force of this car was supplied by a six-cylinder Khorjini Dino engine. This engine was the latest stage in the development of an engine that had already achieved considerable success in racing, both in single-seaters and sports cars.

The volume of the engine was slightly less than two liters and it used a two-stage ignition system for each cylinder and two camshafts at the top of each cylinder row. The power of this engine in the racing configuration exceeded 200 horsepower.
