Another Gaumont classic, Betty Bleu, Jean-Jacques Beinique's iconic tale of love gone wild, returns to the big screen at this year's Lumiere Film Festival.
Originally released in 1986 as 37°2 le matin, this romantic drama is a doomed love story between Zorg (Jean-Haig Anglade), a handyman and aspiring writer in his 30s, and Betty (Béatrice Dahl), a volatile, impulsive and fragile 19-year-old.
The film is also one of this year's highlights for Gaumont, which presents a new 4K master of the full 185-minute version - "a film that has not been seen in cinemas in this version since 1991," noted Jérôme Soule, Head of Catalog at Gaumont.
The 4K restoration of "Betty Blue" was done by Gaumont at the GP Archives Lab.
The film will be screened this year as part of the Lumière Festival's Big Films on the Big Screen Sidebar, providing an opportunity to rediscover cinematic masterpieces in their desired format.
Soulet will also be at the Lumiere International Classic Film Market in Lyon to present the company's new film lineup at the first annual presentation of catalog owners on Wednesday.
