What happened in season 3 of The Gilded Age series?

Donika's character, Dr. Kirkland, proposed to Peggy Scott (Benton) in a happy-go-lucky moment at the end of Season 3. In contrast, George (Spector) and Bertha hit a rough patch in their marriage, largely due to Bertha forcing their daughter Gladys (Farmiga) into an arranged marriage. George felt out of control and was angry that Bertha didn't want her daughter to shoot in a love match.

It is worth noting that George is upset on behalf of Gladys. However, she married the Duke of Buckingham and ended up falling in love with him! Bertha's sister Monica (Merritt Voor) comes to town for a wedding, much to Ollie's dismay.

The oldest of the Russell family, Larry Russell (Harry Richardson) has been courting Marian (Louisa Jacobson) all season, but what they've built is gone. After Larry and Marian get engaged, Ollie secretly spends time in a house of ill repute, known as the Whorehouse, with Jack Trotter (Ben Ehlers). Instead of telling her beloved the truth about where he was, she lied, almost irrevocably breaking their union.

Meanwhile, Larry and Jack sell the clock patent, allowing the latter to move out of the Van Rien family and buy himself a nice house with staff. The people of the upper and lower classes were stunned and at the same time happy with his windfall. Thanks to Larry's testimony, Marian gains a better understanding of what she and Larry did that fateful night. As a result, Marian tries to mend fences.

After losing a true love, Oscar's gayness is revealed to his family, whether he was ready for them to know or not. Hey, it was a golden age, after all. Neither his mother Agnes (Christine Baranski) nor his aunt Ada (Cynthia Nixon) dared to say the words out loud, but there was an understanding. He received the full support of his cousin Marian, who was unmoved by the revelation. However, at the end of Season 3, Oscar is seriously considering taking a wife named Turner.

At the end of the season, Bertha faced reality: her husband George was toying with the idea of divorce. You see, his life changed forever after he was shot and nearly died. No one experiences such a tragic event and is the same person afterwards. George seems disinterested in playing a role in Bertha's schemes, especially when it comes to their children.

However, Bertha is one smart cookie and has learned a lot since Season 1. At the time Season 3 was set, divorcees were considered social outcasts. Thus, Bertha, while thinking about the future, helped to reshape social norms. He convinces Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy), whose daughter Charlotte (Hannah Shealy) was recently separated from her husband, to welcome divorced women such as Charlotte and Aurora Fine (Kelly O'Hara) to parties and social events.

Oh, and viewers probably saw the last episode of Ward McAllister (Nathan Lane).

What is Golden Age Chapter 4 about?

The official synopsis for Season 4 reads: "Bertha Russell changed society at a cost. Now, her family must deal with the consequences as Agnes Van Ryn seizes the opportunity to reclaim her position. Meanwhile, Marian forges a new path for herself and Peggy works to be accepted by her future husband. In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for."

The Golden Age is a joint production of HBO and Universal TV, which is part of the Universal Studio Group. Julian Fellowes is the creator, writer and executive producer of the series and Sonja Warfield is the writer and EP. Gareth Neem, David Crockett, director Sally Richardson-Whitfield, Keith Churchill, Bob Greenblatt, and writer Elaine Aronson also serve as executive producers.
