Postgame press conference: HC Sean McVay and QB Matthew Stafford of the Rams after a tough win against the Eagles
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay and quarterback Matthew Stafford spoke after their hard-fought win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Sean McVay wasn't kidding when he said he was going to reevaluate things after another special teams loss for the Los Angeles Rams.
On Monday, Rams kicker Harrison Mewis missed a 50-yard field goal in the first quarter and blocked a game-winning 48-yard field goal in the team's 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills. On Tuesday, the Rams released Mevis, Outkick confirmed.
The team signed Blake Grupp off the New York Jets' practice squad to replace Mewis. NFL Network first reported the Rams' moves. McVay was forthright in his assessment of the kicking game.
"In the kicking game, especially with the PAT, our field goal, it's not even good enough," McVay told reporters after the loss. "It cost us the game tonight."
The Rams' special teams struggles have been a common theme since McVay took over in 2017. Including the playoffs, the Rams have had 81 missed or blocked kicks since 2017, third most in the NFL.
According to ESPN, since the start of last season, opponents have blocked three Rams punts, tied for the most in the NFL.
"I felt like I hit it well," Mewis said. "That's all I can tell you. I mean, I hit it good, I gave it a chance. I'll have to look."

Mewis, who was nicknamed "The Thickest Hitter" because of his 245-pound weight, joined the Rams' active roster last November. In nine games last season, the 24-year-old made 12 of 13 field goal attempts and all 39 extra point attempts.
He was also excellent in the Rams' three playoff games last year, making all six field goal attempts and nine extra point attempts.
This season has been a very different story as Mewis has scored five of his nine attempts in the team's first five games.
The Rams hope Grupp can solidify the position moving forward. The 27-year-old played for the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints over three seasons, making 86 of 106 field goals and 96 of 98 extra point attempts.
Grupp finished last season with the Colts, making all 11 of his field goal attempts in five games.
