A fugitive accused of stealing more than $600,000 in federal food stamp benefits has been extradited to the United States after being arrested in India last month, FBI Director Cash Patel announced.

Manjit Singh Bedi, one of the FBI's most wanted fraudsters, was wanted on federal charges stemming from a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) fraud scheme at a grocery store in Tacoma, Washington.

"Back in the US - Manjit Singh Bedi, one of the FBI's most wanted crooks, was arrested in India in September," Patel wrote in X .

Patel highlighted the FBI's recent success in returning fugitives to the United States.

"This is the latest unprecedented success in returning high-value targets to the United States through strong partnerships with our foreign law enforcement counterparts," said Stepatel.

He added: "In the last 20 months, we have secured 260 extraditions and deportations, which is an increase of more than 70 percent compared to the previous 20-month period."

According to federal authorities, Bedi allegedly defrauded the U.S. government of at least $600,000 through a SNAP fraud scheme from March 2024 to June 2025 while operating an Asian grocery store in Tacoma.

The FBI said Bedi allegedly skimmed SNAP recipients' Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, offered cash in lieu of eligible food purchases and kept nearly half of the benefits for herself.

After being charged in connection with the scheme, Biddy allegedly went to Canada before fleeing to India.

A federal arrest warrant for violating his release conditions was issued on May 21, 2026.

Bedi is now one of six fugitives arrested by the FBI's Most Wanted Fraudsters program since the list was created three months ago, Patel said.

Badi will now face justice for his alleged crimes in the United States, Patel said.
