Three NFL dumpster fires create embarrassing league history not seen in nearly three decades

The Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans are all 0-5, the first time in 28 years that three teams in the same conference have started winless.

"And I think one of the biggest things is another adjustment for another offensive coordinator. Probably the fifth or sixth coordinator right now, offensive coordinator coming in the last couple of years with Justin Herbert. We don't excuse that at all."

Nothing spectacular about an 0-5 team, but three 0-5 teams in one conference? This is a different story.

The Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans all have the unfortunate distinction of not winning. According to ESPN, this is the first time in 28 years that three teams in the same conference have started 0-5.

These three organizations are in different situations. The Dolphins were expected to struggle as they are in the first year of a rebuild with a new coach and general manager. If you had told Dolphins fans before the season that their team would be nearly winless midway through October, not many would have been surprised.

If you had told Titans fans before the season that their team would go five games without a win, they would have been very surprised. With Cam Ward in his second season and a new coaching staff in town, Titans fans expected their team to compete in the AFC South, not sit in the basement of the division.

If you had told Chargers fans before the season that their team would go five games without a win, they probably would have laughed in your face. They won't be, however, he laughs anymore.

Their offense, which was supposed to be greatly improved with the addition of former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator, has been woeful. The Chargers are 30th in the NFL in scoring, averaging 16.8 points per game.

Fittingly, only the Dolphins (14 points per game) and Titans (11.6) average.

The good news for Miami is that the Dolphins can't lose this week because they have a bye.

The Titans and Chargers are not so lucky. The Titans face the Indianapolis Colts (2-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

The Chargers will get their first win against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
