Skydance Expands Strategic Alliance with Movistar Plus Spain, Launches Local Series Under Joint Label
Movistar Plus Will Continue Carrying HBO Max on Its Streaming Platform, as New Deal Also Covers “Selected Skydance TV Channels, WB Theatrical Releases and New Content Agreements”
Newly merged Skydance and Spain's Movistar Plus on Tuesday unveiled the expansion of their strategic alliance through "a new two-year global agreement that cements one of the most important partnerships in the Spanish audiovisual industry."
One of the main pillars of the deal is that Movistar Plus will continue to offer HBO Max as part of its streaming platform. Also under this new deal, "selected Skydance TV channels, original cinema shows from Warner Bros. Pictures, and new content deals” are also covered. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The Essence finally met its native audience at the London Film Festival, and Jack O'Connell had some thoughts.
The main new development in the expanded collaboration is "the first initiative of its kind in the Spanish market, under which the two companies will offer a series of local series under the joint label Movistar Plus and HBO Original".
The first two titles to carry the joint originals label are Veredicto and the as-yet-untitled collection.
Produced in collaboration with Ikiru Films and Luminol Media, the series Veredicto, Movistar Plus and HBO Original was created by Eduard Sola, Pol Cortecans and Daniel González from an original idea by Carles Porta. The film will star Nagor Aranboro, Ernesto Alterio, Alba Flores, Omar Ayoso, Secon de la Rosa, Alfredo Castro, Marc Soler, Julia Maskort, Chris Blanco and Maman Duc. The partners immediately shared more details.
The second original is a new Movistar Plus and HBO Original series from Carles Porta and Los Moriarti (Maspalomas, Marco, The Endless Trench) starring Ana Castillo, Paul Lopez and Edward Fernandez.
"This initiative expands the national and international reach of stories developed in Spain, increases the visibility of Spanish creative talent and reinforces Movistar Plus' commitment to high-quality original content," the companies said.
The partners said: "The extended agreement includes new initiatives across broadcast, channels, film, original content and sports rights, and will strengthen a differentiated entertainment offer designed to meet the demands of an increasingly sophisticated audience, while strengthening Movistar Plus' position as one of the market-leading entertainment destinations."
Alfonso Gómez Palacio, CEO of Movistar Plus, said: "This agreement strengthens our long-term strategic partnership with Skydance and allows us to offer our customers one of the most comprehensive entertainment offers on the market, combining the best user experience with some of the most recognized content and brands in the audiovisual industry.
"Great stories have the power to bring together audiences around the world, and this broad alliance with Movistar Plus allows us to continue to bring Spanish viewers the best franchises, films and series that impact our industry." "From iconic cinematic universes to original productions with the potential to become global phenomena, with Movistar Plus we aspire to deliver outstanding entertainment experiences and support a new generation of storytellers," emphasized Alessandro Araimo, Managing Director and Executive Vice President Southern Europe at Skydance.
Customers of the Spanish broadcaster "will continue to enjoy the HBO Max catalog with all the benefits of the Movistar Plus experience," the companies said. "This integration makes content easier to discover and streamlines the user experience, allowing viewers to access all of their entertainment from a single environment."
Popular HBO Max content includes movies like The Pitt, The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, movies from Warner Bros. and DC, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and Harry Potter.
