Standard Chartered has launched institutional custody services for Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin and plans to expand its use as trade collateral.
The UK-based multinational bank announced on Monday that it will implement RLUSD support on XRP Ledger (XRPL) through its Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) branch, giving eligible institutional customers access to its digital asset custody infrastructure.
Standard Chartered plans to extend its collateral mirroring model to LMAX Group, an institutional trading company, allowing clients to use RLUSD as trading collateral while keeping the tokens with the bank.
This model allows LMAX to recognize the value of eligible RLUSD assets without requiring clients to transfer tokens to its trading platform. Standard Chartered said this could reduce the risks associated with transmission and help institutions manage their exposure to counterparties.
Ripple, the blockchain payment company behind RLUSD, and LMAX Group previously announced a partnership in January 2026 to expand institutional use of the stablecoin.
Standard Chartered said additional collateral capabilities are still subject to final documentation, testing, regulatory requirements and internal approvals.
