In a telephone conversation with Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertes accused Iran of destabilizing the region and demanded that Tehran return to negotiations with the United States. He also emphasized on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and stopping what he called Iran's military nuclear program.

According to Anatoly, Stefan Cornelius, the spokesman of the German government, announced on Tuesday the telephone conversation between Mertes and Mohammed bin Salman about the recent developments in West Asia. According to him, the two sides exchanged views on the recent attacks of the Yemeni armed forces, the situation in the Middle East, and ways to end regional conflicts.

In another part of this conversation, the issue of the security of sea routes in the region and the importance of reopening the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb were raised. Mertes also demanded the resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States and claimed that Tehran should end what he called destabilization of the region. In this call, the German chancellor emphasized the permanent and unrestricted reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the halting of Iran's military nuclear program.

In the continuation of this phone call, Mertes and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia also discussed the consequences of regional conflicts on the German energy market. According to the spokesman of the German government, the two sides discussed ways to stabilize energy prices and reduce the economic effects of regional tensions.
