Media reports indicate the arrest of a Saudi engineer in the US Office of Artificial Intelligence on charges of attempted espionage.
According to Ambassador Arjan, quoted by Arabi 21, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Saudi engineer working at OpenAI, an artificial intelligence giant, on the charge of trying to eavesdrop on confidential meetings by using secret recording devices in the meeting rooms of the company's senior officials.
In this regard, the California Post reported that 35-year-old Abdul Rahman Al-Fouzan from Saudi Arabia has been in federal custody since Friday. The company discovered a recording device that was secretly connected to a USB port behind a television in one of the meeting rooms. This device was wrapped in toilet paper to hide.
According to this newspaper, it seems that this room was used to hold high-level meetings of the company's managers about its secret programs, including exclusive research, technical capabilities, relations with government institutions, and other sensitive issues.
The US Department of Justice announced that Al-Fouzan has been working in the said company in San Francisco since July 2025.
This Saudi national will be sentenced to a maximum of 5 years in prison, a fine of 250 thousand dollars and three years of supervised release if his accusation is proven.
