Two years after wildfires devastated Pacific Palisades and other Los Angeles-area neighborhoods, a popular movie theater is ready to open its doors. Paramount Pictures real estate developer Rick Caruso said Tuesday that the Bay Theater in Palisades Village will reopen before the end of the year.
The high-end five-screen theater at 1035 N. Swarthmore Ave. Closed since the Palisades fire in early January 2025, it is being renovated and will be managed by luxury cinema operator The Lot. Along with first-run movies and classics, the Bay will host special screenings and immersive theatrical experiences, according to Paramount, which previously operated Netflix and Cinepolis.
"Together with Caruso, we are proud to help restore the bay as a place for the Pacific Palisades community to gather for a shared cinema experience," said Skydance Chairman and CEO David Ellison. "This theater has always meant more than just movies — it's woven into the fabric of this neighborhood, and it's a privilege to help restore it. We're inspired by the resilience of the residents of Pacific Palisades, and we're proud to help support this community's comeback." Watch on Deadline
Caruso's surrounding Palisades Village reopened over the summer, and now the Bay Theater is set to open its doors by the end of 2026, though no firm date has been set.
The original Bay Theater opened on Sunset Boulevard in 1949 and closed in 1978. The current iteration of the venue began in 2018.
"The bay has always been at the heart of the Palisades, and its return is one of the most significant signs that this community ... is coming back stronger than ever," said Caruso, who finished runner-up in the 2022 race for mayor of Los Angeles.
The Lot, which will oversee Bay operations, operates luxury theaters in La Jolla, Newport Beach and other California cities.
