"Forensic files" go back to the lab. Radial Entertainment has teamed up with Content Partners and ITV Studios to produce new episodes of the series that examine true crime stories from the perspective of scientific evidence and data analysis.

The partners plan to deliver 20 new episodes, which are expected to generate new interest and viewership for the 400-episode "Legal Cases" library. The series debuted in the mid-1990s on the TLC Discovery Channel as "Medical Detectives". Since then it has had several incarnations and is available on YouTube and other streaming platforms. With the new batch of episodes, Radial and Content Partners are giving the show a big SEO push across multiple digital platforms. Radial is running the same model in the unrelated series The FBI Files. "Legal cases helped define true crime television, and its focus on science and evidence continues to resonate with one of the genre's most loyal audiences," said Radial Entertainment's chief investment officer, David Boymaster. "Working with Content Partners to create new episodes is a natural next step in our relationship and an opportunity to build on the show's legacy." Popular in Variety

Content Partners, a Los Angeles-based rights management and holding company, has owned Legal Files since 2024.

"From the very beginning, we saw an opportunity to build on the extraordinary history of 'Legal Cases,'" said Scott Hemming, executive vice president of Content Partners. "Radial shares our commitment to the series, and with ITV America's production expertise, we're excited to bring audiences the new investigation with the scientific detail and clarity that has made 'Legal Cases' a staple of unscripted television."

Buoymaster, Christina Gugino and Kathy Carroll are executive producers for Radial Entertainment, and Steve Cram, Hemming and John Moss serve as executive producers for Content Partners. For ITV America, executive producers are Shawn Waite, Jordana Hochman and Samit David.

"The Legal Files" ranks among the few true crime franchises that have captivated audiences for decades, Witt said. "We have a lot of respect for what made the original so special, and we're excited to work with Radial and Content Partners to carry that legacy forward with all-new episodes that showcase fresh and compelling research."
