50% Off the Massive 2026 98-Inch TCL QM8L 4K TV With Super Quantum Dot Technology
At this size, it's an even better choice than OLED.
One of the best ultra-large screen TVs is down to its lowest price for Prime Day, and the deal is still available for a little while longer. Amazon is currently offering the massive TCL QM8L 4K 98-inch TV for $2,998.99 with free shipping. If you're an Amazon Prime card member, you'll get an extra 10% cashback instead of the usual 5%. This TV usually costs $6,000. If you're looking for a TV this size or a TV close to 100, I'd recommend any other TV. Yes, even more than OLED.

TCL SQD mini LED technology looks like the real deal
The new 2026 QM8L TV features TCL's much-touted SQD technology. SQD – which stands for Super Quantum Dot – is a more advanced version of QLED technology. Quantum dot panels have a layer of microscopic crystals a few nanometers in size that are able to separate light into precise colors. SQD technology also uses smaller crystals – as small as a nanometer in width. This allows SQD panels to target even more low-light areas, typically in the thousands, which in turn produces a brighter image with higher contrast and richer colors. The 98-inch model in particular has a maximum brightness of 6000 nits and more than 4000 local dimming zones.
Combined with TCL's new halo control system, the QM8L eliminates the halo effect when white and black elements are placed next to each other. Use with other LED LCD TVs. This is one of the ways you can tell OLED TVs (which don't show the halo effect) from LED LCD TVs. TCL's SQD TV levels the playing field in this regard. The QM8L is also a great option for console gaming. This panel has a refresh rate of 144 Hz and four HDMI 2.1 ports.
I prefer the 98-inch QM8L to the 97-inch LG G6 OLED
On the OLED front, the closest comparison to the 98-inch TCL QM8L is the LG G6 Gallery series TV, which is available in a 97-inch screen size. Let's ignore the fact that the TV costs $20,000 at most retailers, and OLED burn-in is definitely a real problem. Importantly, the 97-inch LG G6 is lower than its smaller counterparts. While all other G6 TVs feature LG's latest native RGB Tandem 2.0 OLED panel, the 97-inch version uses a traditional W-OLED panel similar to that found on the LG B6 TV. It's also dimmer (much dimmer than the QM8L) and covers a 120Hz refresh rate. In short, don't expect LG's amazing "gallery series image quality" on the 97.
I choose the 98-inch QM8L over a home theater projector
With the QM8L on the market, there's no obvious reason to get a home theater projector unless you have a much larger screen (120 inches or larger). To get a projector that can reasonably measure up to the QM8L's image quality, you'd have to spend over $4,000, and even then it's limited to a single screen. A completely dark room with an optimized screen can cost another $1,000 or more. For both movie watching and gaming at this screen size, I'd say go for the TV, and that's coming from someone who's owned a high-end Sony projector for over a decade.
I'd choose the 98-inch QM8L over TCL's high-end X11L
TCL produces another 98-inch TV that is technically superior. The 98-inch X11L is available for less than $8,000, or 2.7 times the price of the QM8L. Although both TVs use the new SQD Mini-LED technology, the X11L has much more dim areas: 20,000 on the X11L compared to 4,000 on the QM8L. Compared to 6000 nits) and more accurate colors it really is the best.
