This is not the only problem with the brand, but it is definitely one of them.
Michael Jordan hasn't played an NBA game in over two decades, but his "hiss" still holds record-breaking stats.
Jordan's autographed jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals, featured in the hit documentary "The Last Dance," sold for an impressive $14 million at a private sale, making it the most expensive piece of basketball memorabilia ever sold.
Pennsylvania-based Hunt's Auctions announced the blockbuster deal Monday morning, revealing that Miami real estate investor Ron Fairman is the proud new owner of the Chicago Bulls' iconic red jersey.
The Wilt Chamberlain Warmer Jacket sells for tens of thousands at THRIFT for $3.
MJ wore this jersey in Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz on June 5, 1998, when the Bulls tied the series 1-1. Chicago ended up winning its sixth championship in eight seasons, completing Jordan's legendary run with the franchise and cementing himself as the Goat (the greatest of all time) in my opinion.
"While Michael Jordan's importance to the sports memorabilia market has long been recognized, it has now risen to an elite asset class usually reserved for iconic works of art," said David Hunt, head of Hunt Auctions.

The $14 million sale is the second-highest known price ever paid for a game-worn jersey in all of sports. The only jersey ahead of Jordan? Babe Ruth's famous "shot" jersey from the 1932 World Series, which sold for an astounding $24.12 million in 2024.

But this is where things get crazier.
It is now the third Jordan jersey since the 1998 NBA Finals to sell for at least $10 million. His Game 1 jersey sold for roughly $10.1 million in 2022, while his Game 3 jersey fetched roughly $12.3 million last month. That's more than $36 million to buy three jerseys from a championship series.

As for Fairman, the man who just dropped eight figures on a piece of basketball history, he kept his reaction relatively simple.
"Michael Jordan was an incredibly talented player who was admired around the world," Fairman said. "I am very excited about the purchase."
You sure hope so after spending $14 million.
According to Hunt Auctions, the jersey was originally purchased from the Bulls by a private collector in 2003 and has only changed hands once since its original purchase.
Of course, the obsession with Jordan's latest championship season doesn't end with the jerseys.
In 2023, a pair of Air Jordans worn by MJ in Game 2 of the same Finals sold for $2.2 million through Sotheby's, setting the record for the most expensive sneaker sold at the time.
Nearly 30 years after Jordan made his iconic game-winning shot against Utah, collectors are still willing to pay a fortune to own a piece of his legacy.

As Michael Jordan famously said, "Republicans buy sneakers too," and Nike seems to have forgotten that. (WireImage)
Michael Jordan may be retired from basketball, but when it comes to the memorabilia market, the GOAT is still unbeatable.
