Reverend Franklin Graham details the toll of his father's time away from home

Graham explains the power of his faith and much more in a new episode of Hannity's podcast.

Pastor Franklin Graham talks about the toll Billy Graham's worldwide ministry took on his father's family and recalls the heartbreaking moment he didn't recognize his father after months of separation.

"Mom, who's that strange guy in bed with you?" Graham recalled asking her mother after her father returned from a six-month trip to Australia.

The evangelical leader shared the memory, which he attributes to his mother, during an interview on Sean Hannity's podcast, "Hang Out with Sean Hannity," explaining how his father's long trips sometimes took him away from home for months at a time.

Graham explained that the trip was made before jet aircraft became common, when getting to Australia required multiple stops along the way, including long stops in Hawaii and Fiji.

"You fly to Hawaii, then you stay for a few days, then you fly to Fiji and you stay for a few days, and then you go to Sydney or Melbourne or wherever you want," he recalls.

"But my dad spent all that time in Australia and so when he came home ... we [his children] didn't recognize him," she added.

Graham said the incident had traumatized his father. His evangelistic efforts remained the cornerstone of his life's work. The world-renowned pastor, who spent decades traveling the world preaching the gospel, became one of the most influential figures of the 20th century, reaching millions through evangelical crusades, television shows and other outreach efforts.

Today, Franklin Graham follows in his late father's footsteps as President and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, teaching the message of God's Word around the world and serving as a leading voice on issues of the Christian faith.

His wide-ranging conversation with Hannity also noted his unwavering faith in Christ and the impact of the Graham family's ministry.
