Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: Claim That Iranian Territory Would Be Ceded to Afghanistan Has No Basis / What Was Raised Is a Common Practice Under Which Landlocked Countries Without Access to Open Seas Are Offered Facilities in the Form of a 'Lease'

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the claim that Iranian territory would be ceded to Afghanistan has no basis. This was in fact an obvious misunderstanding drawn from remarks by a respected member of parliament. It is entirely clear that ceding territory and land is not possible under any circumstances.

Ambassador Arjan: The press conference of Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Beqai was held today, Monday, October 20, 1405, with the presence of media and journalists.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "The claim of handing over Iran's territory to Afghanistan has no basis." This issue was actually a clear misunderstanding that was taken from the statements of one of the respected representatives of the parliament. It is quite clear that the transfer of soil and land is not possible in any way.

Baqaei stated: What has been discussed is a common practice in different countries of the world, which Iran has also used and can use in the future. Based on this procedure, landlocked countries that do not have access to open waters are offered facilities in the form of lease to help develop trade between countries, within the framework of good neighborliness, and provide them with access to ports and open waters for commercial exchanges.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: This action is actually one of the positive initiatives in the direction of developing business cooperation and strengthening neighborly relations.

He added: In relation to Afghanistan, this issue has not been officially raised. Of course, on the sidelines of one of the official meetings held by one of the ministers to Afghanistan, this issue was raised and we also announced that we will investigate it. However, I emphasize that the discussions about handing over Iranian soil have no basis.
