According to the latest technical reviews conducted by Digital Foundry, it seems that Rockstar Games has finally overcome one of the old problems of the RAGE graphics engine in GTA 6; A problem that had penetrated the Taropod titles of this company for nearly two decades and caused slight vibrations in the camera movements and character animation.
Digital Foundry experts, after carefully examining the GTA 6 launch trailer, found out that the animation stutter technical problem, unlike the previous shows of the game, is no longer visible in the frames of this new video. Since the release of the critically acclaimed GTA 4 in 2008, this structural flaw has become a staple of many of Rockstar Games' major productions, including GTA 5 and the Red Dead Redemption series.
This graphic problem caused the camera movements and character animation in some sequences to be displayed with an irregular and jerky rhythm. A direct consequence of this problem was that even when running the game at a completely stable frame rate, character movement or camera rotations would sometimes be accompanied by very short jumps, and as a result, the image output never looked as smooth and polished as expected from a linear frame rate.
The important point in the autopsy of this technical problem is that the said problem had no direct connection with the frame drop; Rather, its root should be sought in the way of synchronizing and updating animations with the frames processed in the RAGE engine. Because of this, even running the game on more powerful hardware with higher frame rates couldn't necessarily completely eradicate these tiny vibrations.
Digital Media Foundry previously noticed the same problem persisting during a review of a 26-minute GTA 6 demo shared in August. At that time, the experts of this media expressed their concern that due to the long history and entanglement of this problem with the core of the RAGE engine, Rockstar Games will probably not be able to fix it before the game's official release date.
However, the review and analysis of the latest GTA 6 trailer has produced completely different results. Despite the creators' extensive use of horizontal and rotating camera movements in this video, techniques that usually reveal these vibrations as clearly as possible, Digital Foundry experts have not been able to detect any signs of animation stuttering in the eye-catching frames of this new show.
Of course, it is still not possible to declare with 100% certainty that this historical flaw has been completely forgotten; Because there is a possibility that Rockstar Games, to compile this promotional trailer, has deliberately taken out sequences in which this defect does not have a visual appearance. However, considering the fact that the mentioned problem was clearly visible in the previous demos of the same game, its absence in the new trailer could be a very promising signal of the implementation of fundamental technical improvements in the heart of the RAGE engine.
If this technical upgrade is fixed and confirmed in the final version of the game, GTA 6 could become the first major game of Rockstar Games in almost two decades that got rid of this old problem.
