The cost of school uniforms can still keep girls out of the classroom in parts of Africa, especially given how fast they are growing. So Peyton McGriff designed a uniform that expands, with adjustable knots along the side of the garment that allow for bust and waist, and hidden seams at the edges that can be expanded to a foot in length. Now distributed throughout Togo through McGriff's nonprofit SHE (Style Her Empowered), the uniforms last about three years, compared to one year for standard uniforms, and have helped families cut education costs by 17 percent, he says.
