How Likely Is a New War? / Americans Have Set New Conditions Not Found in the Memorandum / The Gap Between the Two Sides' Demands Remains Very Wide
A member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly said on the status of Iran-US negotiations: “Right now, there is no talk of negotiations at all. What is certain is that Iran has put forward conditions and the Americans have also announced their conditions, but the gap between the two sides' demands is very wide.”
Alireza Najmi: In the middle of the back and forth between the positions of Tehran and Washington, the news of the new message of the United States to Iran has once again put the issue of relations between the two countries in the spotlight. Tehran is now investigating this message; A development that, along with Donald Trump's recent statements and rising tensions, raises questions about the way forward for the two countries. Can these messages provide a basis for reducing differences or should we still expect a new round of tensions?
The fact is that the continuation of indirect communication alone is not a sign of a change in the positions of the two sides. On the one hand, the transmission of the message from Washington and its review in Tehran raises the possibility of the continuation of consultations, and on the other hand, Trump's positions and statements have added to the existing uncertainties. In such a situation, the content of America's message and Tehran's response can be important in clarifying the perspective of relations between the two countries; However, it is still too early to draw conclusions about the end of this process. It remains to be seen whether these diplomatic moves will lead to a reduction in tensions or whether the differences will continue to overshadow the relations between the two countries.
In this regard, Ambassador Arjan has discussed with Fadahosein Maliki, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Council, about the recent message of the United States and the prospects of Tehran-Washington relations.
The gap between the demands of both sides is huge/I wish we didn't propose new conditions
Fadahossein Maliki said about Donald Trump's frequent threats against Iran: "Trump's projections and threats are not the issue of today and yesterday and will continue in the coming days. "He regularly raises positions like this, but the important thing is what strategy the Islamic Republic of Iran should adopt against Trump's repeated threats."
He added: "Fortunately, during the past few months, in a situation that may be considered a ceasefire from the point of view of the Americans, there has not been a ceasefire from the point of view of Iran. "During this period, we have always faced such cases and scattered conflicts in the outskirts of the Strait of Hormuz."
A member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Council, said about the status of negotiations between Iran and the United States: "Currently, there is no question of negotiation at all." What is certain is that Iran has put forward conditions and the Americans have also announced their conditions, but the distance between the demands of the two sides is very large.
He added: "I wish we did not propose new conditions. Perhaps the problem was that Iran had entered this stage with its hands full and had also accepted the agreement; An agreement that the Americans had accepted. Therefore, instead of proposing new terms and proposals, we should have emphasized the implementation of the same agreement and asked the Americans and the international community to fulfill their obligations.
The Americans have proposed new conditions that were not present in the previous memorandum
A member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Council, referring to the conditions put forth by Iran and the United States, said: "The conditions put forth by Iran have been announced anyway, and the Americans have put forward new conditions that were not in the previous memorandum." Earlier, during the talks in Islamabad, it was emphasized that Iran should not enter into nuclear issues and issues that are considered the country's red line.
He added: "The Americans used this opportunity and proposed new conditions. Considering that the distance between the conditions of the two sides is large, there is a possibility of any conflict."
A member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Council, in response to a question about the possibility of Israel's nuclear attack on Iran, said: "The Americans do not take dangerous actions, because they themselves know what scenario Iran will take and how it will react."
Fadahosein Maliki, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Council, said in response to a question about ways to prevent another war from being imposed on the country: "The most important issue that we should pay attention to inside the country is the two issues of people's livelihood and national cohesion; "Two areas in which we are vulnerable and we must work to repair and strengthen them."
There is a high probability of conflict again
He added: "The government and parliament should focus their efforts on improving people's livelihood. On the other hand, we must be careful not to harm the national unity. Especially some personalities and political currents should consider this issue in their positions and behaviors. The national media should also be careful that its performance and programs do not harm the national unity.
A member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Council, in response to a question about the possibility of a renewed conflict between Iran and the United States, similar to the 40-day war, said: "The possibility of a renewed conflict is high; Because Iran does not accept America's conditions, and America does not adhere to the Islamabad Memorandum."
