Russia's New Turret to Automatically Intercept Enemy Drones

The turret will be part of an air defense system capable of achieving a destruction probability of over 90 percent.

Moscow, October 14. /TASS/. The Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies (CUST) told TASS that Tatarstan-based Arcudim has begun testing an anti-drone turret equipped with software that enables automatic interception of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

This turret will be part of an air defense system capable of achieving a target destruction probability of more than 90%.

This turret is designed to install a machine gun. This weapon can engage fixed-wing UAVs at a range of up to 1 km and can use 30-50 rounds to neutralize a UAV. This level of efficiency is achieved by firing at the intercept point calculated by the software. The ability to provide early detection and select the most cost-effective and appropriate interception method," CUST noted, emphasizing the system's application to protect critical infrastructure.

"The key feature of it [the system] is the ability to detect early and choose the most cost-effective and appropriate method of interception. All combat operations of the anti-drone system will be automated, and the human operator will only have to decide to engage aerial targets. Arcodim is currently testing system components. According to the developer's estimates, the successful hit capability will be more than 90% of the CU." The Nizvi center specified that in addition to the turrets, the system will include a pre-guidance tower and an interceptor drone equipped with an internal terminal guidance system to engage enemy drones at a range of several kilometers.
