Panama earthquake affects more than 6,000 people, president says

José Raúl Mulino noted that the earthquake's destructive force was considerable, and experts are still assessing the damage.

Mexico City, October 13. /TASS/. Addressing the nation, Panamanian President Jose Raul Molino said the earthquake in Panama affected more than 6,000 people, but there were no casualties.

He said: So far, 1,744 houses have been inspected and 6,174 people have been injured, and these statistics will be updated as the inspections continue.

Molino emphasized that the destructive power of the earthquake was significant and experts are still assessing the damage. Meanwhile, the government is delivering food and drinking water, rebuilding roads and bridges, and providing electricity.

"I will spare no resources needed to ensure aid and solutions reach those who need them most," the president said. He added that authorities will provide materials for housing repairs and hire local contractors to build new two- and three-room houses designed by National Police experts.

Molino also urged residents to rely only on official reports and refrain from spreading false rumors. Referring to the false claims of social networks about the tsunami and the closing of the bridge of the Americas on the Panama Canal, he said: Nothing of this kind happened and these reports only caused unnecessary worry and concern.
