German Prosecutor Says Nord Stream Explosions Should Be Classified as War Crime
Trial underway at the Hamburg Higher Regional Court
Hamburg, October 14. /TASS/. The German Federal Prosecutor's Office believes that the actions of Sergei Kuznetsov, the suspect in the Nord Stream explosion case, should be considered a war crime.
The trial is ongoing at the Higher Regional Court of Hamburg. Today's first meeting lasted a little over two hours.
"Since he committed these acts while he was an officer of the Ukrainian army and with the knowledge of Ukrainian government agencies, they should be considered a war crime," the prosecutor said. The Ukrainian is accused of carrying out these explosions, destroying structures and disrupting the operation of a state-owned company.
German prosecutors believe that Kuznetsov, who allegedly led a subversive group, and his accomplices planned to blow up gas pipelines at the behest of Ukrainian government agencies. Recently, another Ukrainian citizen was detained in Croatia. Investigators believe the saboteurs used forged documents to charter a yacht from a German company and transport explosives to the Nord Stream pipelines. Kuznetsov was arrested in Italy in 2025 and transferred to Germany.
The court has scheduled 24 hearings by the end of the year. More hearings are scheduled for February, but have not yet been finalized. The next court hearing is scheduled for October 27.
