Giroud's Professionalism and Ethics in the Lille Dressing Room: Giroud and Davide Ancelotti – A 40-Year-Old's Respect for a 37-Year-Old!

Olivier Giroud says respect for the head coach's role is key in football, which is why he always uses the formal form of address with Davide Ancelotti.

According to Sports Three, Olivier Giroud, the veteran striker of French football, says that he has the utmost respect for the head coach of Lille, even though he is older than the head coach of his team, Davide Ancelotti. In his explanation, Giroud says that he respects the head coach's privacy and knows that his position as a head coach deserves the utmost respect from all players, even those who are older than him.

The veteran French striker Olivier Giroud points to a fact that is referred to as organizational hierarchy in management literature. In his interview, Giroud worked with Davide Ancelotti, the head coach of Lille, and explained why, despite his experience and older age than the 37-year-old head coach of the team, he insists on addressing him with a respectful and formal pronoun.

Although Giroud is 40 years old and three years older than his head coach, whenever he wants to refer to him, Giroud uses the second person plural pronoun. In French, to refer to a close friend or in casual conversations, they use the second person singular pronoun (like you in Persian), but even when referring to the third person, in France we have two pronouns, a normal and familiar pronoun and a respectful pronoun (this does not exist in Persian grammar, and we use his pronoun for the third person in any case).

The 40-year-old striker told "Lochampiona Plus" TV about maintaining a professional distance with his head coach: "I insisted on calling him "you" because he is my boss (laughing). Mutual respect is really key and this behavior is an objective and concrete example for the young players on the team. Even though I have many years of experience and I have passed a brilliant football career and he has just started his professional path as a head coach, there should always be a proper distance and a certain professional respect between the coach and the player.
