A group of American senators called for an investigation into Starlink's disruptions in Ukraine
The senators believe the disruptions "put US diplomatic, military and security personnel at risk."
Washington, October 16. /TASS/. Senator Jane Shahin (D-NH) said in a statement that a group of U.S. senators believes the Defense Department's inspector general should conduct an investigation into the recent Starlink and Starshield service disruptions in Ukraine.
Shaheen and eight other senators from both factions have sent a letter to the aforementioned government agency, "demanding an investigation into the disruption of US-sponsored Starshield systems for Ukrainian partners." The senators believe the disruptions "put US diplomatic, military and security personnel at risk."
The Defense Department's inspector general must "determine whether U.S. officials have confirmed or had prior knowledge of service disruptions" and notify them of the findings by Nov. 1, the senators said.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky called the shutdown of Starlink for Ukraine a mistake and called on SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to restore the service. In turn, Zelensky's adviser and expert in communications and unmanned systems, Sergei Beskrestnov, reported that SpaceX has limited the operating speed of Starlink terminals for the Ukrainian military to 160 km/h. According to him, this "disrupted a number of operations."
RBC-Ukraine news agency reported on October 15, citing sources, that the military and intelligence satellite program Starshield SpaceX, which uses the Starlink infrastructure, has fully resumed operations in Ukraine.
