The beauty of clay and cedar wood in one place (+photo)

The Amona house project, designed in 2025, creates a warm and continuous space between the inside and outside of the building by using exposed brick, clay, cedar wood and clay tiles. An independent workshop and a yard with a sparrow tongue tree are also part of the features of this house.

Ambassador Arjan - Amona's house is located in the city of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico, in an urban plot, adjacent to one of the main green spaces of the city. Designed in 2025, this project tries to strike a balance between privacy, connection with nature and the changing needs of everyday life.

The facade of the house on the street side has a limited and calm presence. In contrast, internal courtyards and openings create a continuous connection with the landscape, natural light and living spaces. This approach links the living experience to the interior space of the building and its relationship with the surrounding environment.

Organizing spaces for diverse lifestyles

Amona's house is organized in two floors. Flexible interior spaces are designed to adapt to different lifestyles. Daily life, creative activities and family gatherings are the three main axes in organizing these spaces.

Next to the main part of the house, an independent workshop is also considered. This space enables the functional expansion of the building and leads to a courtyard with an existing sparrow tongue tree, native vegetation and a small pond.

Natural materials and continuity of interior and exterior space

In the design of Amona's house, materials such as stone masonry, exposed brick, clay, cedar wood, lime coatings and clay tiles are used. The combination of these materials creates a warm and harmonious atmosphere and strengthens the connection between the interior and exterior environment.

The choice of materials and the way spaces are connected is part of the architectural approach of this project to the passage of time. The house is designed with the aim of accompanying life changes, aging while maintaining quality and responding to new forms of family life.

The architectural design of Amona's house was done by COLAR Colectivo architectural group and the photography of the project was done by Ariadna Polo. This project is an example of attention to materials, light, green space and flexibility in contemporary house design.
