The live-action movie Cyberpunk 2077, which is being made in collaboration with Paramount Pictures and the CD Projekt Red studio, is not going to recreate the story of the popular game in this series directly.

The Cyberpunk 2077 game was first released in December 2020 and takes players to Night City; A futuristic metropolis where powerful corporations, advanced technologies, organized crime and social inequality play an important role. The story of the game revolves around his character (V) who, during a mission to steal a bio-chip from the powerful company Arasaka, gets involved in an adventure that changes his life fundamentally.

However, according to the CEO of CD Projekt Red, fans should not expect the same story to be remade on screen with real actors. In an interview with the Polish media PAP Biznes, Nowakowski said about the builders' approach to this project:

For now, all we can say is that we definitely don't want to make a movie adaptation of the game itself. We want to tell a story in the Cyberpunk world, but this story will not be an exact translation of the game's narrative.

These statements indicate that the new film will be inspired by the world and atmosphere of the game, but will have its own independent story. As a result, it is still unclear whether his character or Johnny Silverhand, played by Keanu Reeves, will appear in the film. So far, the actors and the official director of the project have not been announced.

One of the important features of Cyberpunk 2077 is the freedom of action of the player in shaping the course of the story and the fate of the main character. The player's choices affect his relationships with other characters and the end of the story; A theme that can be difficult to transfer directly to a movie, because unlike a game, a movie usually follows a specific narrative path.

On the other hand, Night City alone has the capacity to tell multiple stories. The city is full of gangs, multinational corporations, mercenaries, hackers, and people struggling to survive or gain power. Therefore, the creators can create new characters and show other aspects of this world without retelling his story.

CD Projekt Red has already shown that it is possible to tell new stories in the Cyberpunk world. The anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which aired on Netflix in 2022, followed the story of a new character named David Martinez and presented an independent narrative in Night City instead of recreating his story.

The production of the live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie was announced in October 2026, with Paramount Pictures and CD Projekt Red acting as the main partners of the project. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, veteran producer of Transformers and G.I. Joe, is also present in this project.

Despite the announcement of the film, there is still no information about the release date, cast, director or story details. Therefore, it is not possible to specify at this time when this work will enter the filming stage or which part of the game world it will depict.
